Lee Jung-hyung dreamed of a life in which music and art coexist, and after watching the documentary ‘It Might Get Loud(2008)’, he decided to make musical instruments. He majored in ‘Metalwork & Jewelry’ in University and learned woodworking skills and started making musical instruments personally. He experimented and created his own style of electric guitar. (2010~2017)
An so-ra majored in ‘Cultural heritage preservation’ at University. She was especially attracted to ‘Ott lacquer(Korean Traditional Lacquer Technique)’ as she encountered various cultural properties and traditional techniques.
She received a master’s degree in lacquer refining, lacquer techniques, and how to handle mother-of-pearl from Jeong Su-hwa, the holder of the National Intangible Cultural Property No. 113. (2012~2018)
The two craftsmen met for the first time at ‘Sindang Creative Arcade’, a residence run by the ‘Seoul Cultural Foundation’, and started a ‘Mutzil Project’ to produce Ott lacquered electric guitars. (2018~)
Mutzil dreams of a world where you can create more stylish music and lead a richer life by creating instruments that connect the east and west, the past and the present. We create a ‘combination’ that brings the imagination of crafts to what the performers need. For their better creation, we will not forget the traditions that have developed on this land over a long period of time, and we will always cherish the exploration of new technologies and materials. We will be together for the rest of our lives and make ‘crafts’ that are strong enough to present to our children and valuable in various ways.
